Voted Best Day Care in Central Virginia by 2018 Virginia Living Readers!
Located in the heart of Richmond’s historical Fan District, Ms. Babs’ Nursery School is a unique daycare for infants 3-months-old to pre-schoolers. We offer full-day care in a home-like environment with an exceptional attentive and caring staff.
At Ms. Babs’, the days are filled with love, laughter and learning. Together, we sing about the weather, paint pictures that will turn into rainbows and dance to rhymes in our favorite books. Practicing good manners and kindness to others is just a few of the lessons that are learned each day.
We celebrate and cultivate our differences, and discover “our special uniqueness” by participating in activities that vary from planting tomatoes to counting potatoes. While teaching to care for our Earth, our friends and ourselves, the Ms. Babs’ staff strive to instill important qualities such as trust, compassion and understanding with our children. Our goal is to have each child enter kindergarten well-rounded and happy. After all, learning is more than just ABC’s—it’s about complete personal growth and development.

At Ms. Babs’ Nursery School, we believe that every child, both young and old, needs love, laughter and learning to grow. Although having fun is a priority, we also know the importance of structure.
Ms. Babs’ Nursery School offers far more than the typical daycare facility. Daily walks, visits to the library, lots of outside time, special visitors and cookouts with our families are part of our exciting days.
The staff at Ms. Babs’ Nursery School consists of carefully screened, experienced childcare professionals. They provide loving care while developing your child’s language, fine and large motor skills, and self-help skills.
What The Parents Say
I have been pleased to have my child at Bab’s Nursery School for the past two years. In my line of work (I am a puppeteer) I have seen many childcare centers. … When my husband and I needed a few days a week of childcare for our daughter, we were very particular about what we wanted. We also knew what we did not want.
I love it that Babs works hard on good manners and is a consistent, positive infuence on our child. I am glad that the children are able to visit the library on a regular basis and that books and storytelling play an important part in every day. I am very thankful for the lack of video games and electronic toys.
There is a warm family atmosphere at Babs that you can’t find at larger centers.

Love grows at Ms. Babs’! Our two boys have really thrived since their enrollment almost three years ago. Our older son has developed important skills and truly enjoys the learning experience at Ms. Babs’. The curriculum is very well organized and seems to include a healthy balance of creativity and essential early development concepts. Most importantly, Ms. Babs clearly has a talent for hiring great teachers … they’re all “child whisperers”! I would recommend the nursery to any friend or family members.

Babs, I truly feel lucky to have you in my life, not just because you’re my employer, of course, but because of your genuine character. The children are shaped indescribably by your heart.
I hope your birthday was filled with candles, granddaughters and magic!
Happy Birthday!

Our family was so lucky to have found your wonderful school. Bab’s school is a magical place and we will always be grateful for the amazing experiences Noah had while in your care.
Your school has a knack for hiring fabulous teachers who bring out the best in each and every child.

The atmosphere is professional yet warm and inviting.
All of the staff genuinely care about the children and everyone seem excited to be at work! … It feel[s] more like home to my kids than a daycare. It feels like that neighborhood house where you always wanted to be when you were a little kid.

My experience has been so wonderful! The staff demonstrates genuine affection, care, attentiveness to all the children. There are lots of interesting activities planned all week that are engaging, fun, and educational. Most importantly, my daughter loves going everyday!

The entire experience [at Ms. Babs’] was positive. … With great maturity and insight, Babs dealt proactively with any situation involving my son who has high-functioning autism (HFA). … With my son hypersensitive to environments, social situations, foods and other stimuli, it was a tremendous advantage that the school has a homey, rather than institutional feel. Plus, two of Babs’ staff members had experience and training in working with autistic children.
I’m grateful that Babs’ nursery provided strong reinforcement when it came to manners, sharing, hygiene and cultural learning activities.

The love, nurture and education [my grandson] received from you are evident in his trust of people and situations and in his precious love of learning. You embraced him as a toddler, teaching him core values as well as letters and numbers. You have done a masterful job, and I could not be prouder of the lessons he has learned.
You have raised the bar high for his new school …

Having been with you and Joe for the last 5 years … words in a letter do not quite do justice … for the love, nurturing, and positive environment you and your staff have provided, not to mention the potty training you initiated …
Incredibly, Celia can read, she has strong math basic skills, and she is socially mature for her age. These skills are much more than we could have hoped for as she enters kindergarten in the next few months. I have shared with other parents … that dropping Celia off at Ms. Babs every morning is like dropping her off with family. Thank you, thank you, thank you, I can’t say it enough.
